What You Should Know About Thermostats

Installing a Modern Thermostat Adds Comfort and Saves Money

Newer thermostats can typically be programmed to control temperature with multiple settings. This means you can adjust your heating or cooling cycles to coincide with your home activities. An electronic thermostat can save you money and improve your comfort. You can program your thermostat to lower the temperature when no one is at home, and increase it when your home is most active. Some newer thermostats even control humidity levels. Lennox recently introduced a thermostat that controls humidity by automatically responding to moisture-level fluctuations and dew-point variations inside and outside a home. Such devices typically work in conjunction with a home's heating and cooling system, thus assuring a comfortable living environment throughout the year. Controlling both temperature and humidity levels provide the optimum comfort levels.

Ask your SameDay technician about the Lifestyle Thermostats, which allow you to program temperature set points and times, thus maximizing your comfort when you are home, and reducing energy costs while you are away.

How Ceiling Fans Can Help

Ceiling Fans Look Sharp, Add Comfort, and May Save You Money

Ceiling fans look sharp and produce a welcome breeze on hot summer days. They can also save you 20 percent on your energy bills, if they are used properly. When using a ceiling fan, turn your A/C thermostat up three degrees Fahrenheit. Sure, the room will be warmer, but the ceiling fan will actually make the air feel cooler, so you won't experience a loss of comfort. To maximize comfort, relocate the fans directly above sitting and sleeping areas, or place couches, chairs, kitchen tables and beds directly beneath the ceiling fans.

To maximize energy savings, be sure to turn off the ceiling fan when no one is in the room. You can do this fairly simply with a motion-sensor switch wall switch (assuming you don't have pets that wander about the house). The sensor will automatically turn the fan on and off when you enter or leave the room.
